Leading without a map

Leading can be lonely and it’s tempting to just be satisfied with status quo and failing to act when in a tough spot. I’ve found on a number of times, that action or agency, even with imperfect is better than inaction.

An example of this is based on an anecdote about a Hungarian reconnaissance unit lost in the Alps. In the poem, the soldiers faced an icy death, until their leader found a map which he used to lead the platoon to safety. On their return, however, it was found that the map was not of the Alps but of the Pyrenees.
